Nanostructured Materials 9 CFU

Laurea Magistrale Ingegneria dei Materiali

I semester:

Tue 12.30-15.30 ICh1; Thu 12.30-15.30 Rh02andRh03

Tutorials
Thu 16.00-18.00. It is also possible to fix appointments in different days by contacting the professor by e-mail.

Program
The Main object of the course is to provide the students with the basics of synthesis and processing of nanomaterials and nanostructures and the physical properties related to the nanometer scale.
Subjects: physical chemistry of solid surface: surface energy, electrostatic and steric stabilization. Chemical synthesis of nanoparticles (metals, semiconductors, oxides), physical properties, applications. Chemical synthesis of nanorods, nanowires and nanotubes, physical properties and applications. Thin films depositions. Nanostructures fabricated by physical techniques: lithography and microfabbrication. Nanocomposites: synthesis and properties. Part of the lectures will be held in the lab where the students will synthesize and characterize different kind of nanomaterials. The following labs will be visited: Nanofab in Marghera e the Electra synchrotron in Trieste

Exams
The exam can be give in English or Italian . Each students has to write a report on the lab experiences and has to give a PowerPoint presentation on a research paper provided by the professor.
